Citizenship Ceremony
A citizenship ceremony is where you make the Australian citizenship pledge. For most people, this is the final step in the journey to becoming an Australian. After your citizenship application is approved you will receive an invitation to attend a ceremony.
The Shire's role in the citizenship process is to conduct citizenship ceremonies and to present attending candidates with their citizenship certificates.
Prior to being eligible to take part in a citizenship ceremony, you must have completed your application process with the Department of Home Affairs and have received your letter of approval from the Minister for Immigration, Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs.
The ceremony consists of:
- Welcome by Presiding Member
- Reading of the Minister's Message
- Pledge
- Presentation of Citizenship Certificates
- Affirmation (voluntary)
- Australian National Anthem
- Closing Address
