The Kerkhoff Carnaby Group is delighted to confirm it will build the Carnaby cockatoo sculpture between the Youth Centre and netball courts. In confirming this news, Topsy De Vries and Tracy Lefroy said they were excited about the decision as it enables the Kerkhoff Carnaby Group to proceed with arrangements to build the statue.

The Youth Centre and Skate Park will remain where they are and will eventually be refurbished as part of the sport and recreation precinct renewal.

As previously mentioned in our statement on 22nd June, the site has many benefits. It is relatively undeveloped, has good road and footpath access, it minimises traffic hazards and is in close proximity to visitor infrastructure. Above all else, it places the structure in an environment that is sympathetic to the Carnaby cockatoo’s natural habitat and provides a distinctive landmark along the Carnaby Cockatoo Walking Trail.

Topsy De Vries said “the Kerkhoff Carnaby Group is happy to have a great site for our Carnaby Cockatoo sculpture. We hope the public will see the benefits the project will bring into the town in the form of travellers, who want to see this magnificent sculpture for themselves. We will work hard with the Shire to finalise this project before the next tourist season.”

Shire President Tracy Lefroy said the Shire is looking forward to the next stage of this exciting project.
