Free Pickleball sessions are coming to Moora on a monthly basis. The next session will be held on Wednesday, 27th November at the Moora Recreation Centre. It is open to all ages and abilities. Perth Symphony Orchestra (PSO) and the Shire of Moora, with funding from the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, have joined together to bring you Green Shoots Moora. The PSO-led program has brought Moora and surrounds-based musicians together from the community and schools to form ensembles, supported by a dedicated PSO musician who will help coach, mentor and teach. The program will culminate in a spectacular performance in March 2025 that will feature the Moora Green Shoots ensembles, set alongside the Orchestra, in a 'theatre' made of hay bales.

Perth Symphony Orchestra (PSO) had a wonderful time working with the talented choir at St Joseph's Primary School in Moora this week! These young singers are starting to prepare a special song for the upcoming Green Shoots Concert! PSO also had a blast leading a fun, interactive incursion at Miling Primary School. They even formed their own "Smiling Miling" band with the students! Proof that music is for everyone! 

The KidSport Regional Pools Program is now available for eligible children at the Moora Swimming Pool! Partnering with the State Government, we’re excited to announce that eligible children and young people in our community can now access a seasonal pool pass under the program. The program seeks to increase physical activity and water awareness of children aged 5 to18 years by subsidising the cost of access to community pools in targeted regional areas. On Monday 11th November, the community paid its respects to the soldiers, nurses and community affected by war at the Remembrance Day Service, held at the recently restored War Memorial Statue. The work has been masterfully carried out by Limestone Craft, and we thank them for their attention to detail. The project was undertaken with a grant awarded through the Saluting Their Service (STS) Commemorative Grants Program, provided by the Australian Government’s Department of Veteran’s Affairs.

With the imminent arrival of the Early Childhood Learning Centre, the Shire would like to share some of the last photographs of the building before it leaves the yard. The 13 modules forming the new centre will arrive in Moora on the 20th and 21st November.

The Christmas banners placed along Dandaragan & Gardiner Streets are in need of replacement, so we thought we’d run a ‘design your own’ Christmas banner competition! We are calling on everyone to put their art and/or graphic design skills to great use and to help us design beautiful artworks, which will be printed on vinyl banners and hung for all to see. The Shire of Moora entered into a PROHIBITED BURNING PERIOD on 1st November 2024. All burning is prohibited until after 14th February 2025. For more information, refer to the Shire's website by following the link below.

The swimming pool has undergone significant upgrades and is looking fantastic. It opened to the public on Monday 28th October. Pool opening times will remain the same as last season and can be found below. The toddler pool will take a few more weeks to complete and be ready for use.

With the imminent arrival of renewable energy in the Shire of Moora, we wish to advise community members of a second Renewable Energy Information Session. It will be held on Monday 4th November 2024, at the Moora Recreation Centre, between 6-8pm. The panel will include Peter Kerr from ATA Consultants, Jai Thomas CEO of Powering WA, Peta Ashworth, Curtin University and an industry representative.

Users and Members of the Public are advised that the RV Short-Term Stay area and dump point will close permanently from 31st of October 2024. With the commencement of construction of Stage 2 of the Early Childhood Development Centre, the RV area will become part of the construction zone that will be used by heavy machinery. Unfortunately, an alternative site within Moora townsite will not be available until the latter half of 2025.

The Shire is pleased to provide an update regarding the construction of the Early Childhood Learning Centre. The broader project has two stages, the first being the construction of the early childhood health facility and the Early Childhood Learning Centre being the second. The project was structured in this order to reflect Commonwealth funding allocation and the time limits within which the funding was to be acquitted. The early childhood health facility is virtually complete; we are awaiting final inspection and certification by the architect prior to issue of the certificate of occupancy.

Are you likely to attend fires in the Shire of Moora, but have no previous training and are not currently a member of a local brigade? WE WANT YOU! The Shire values the contribution of our spontaneous volunteers/farmer response and encourages you to attend Rural Fire Awareness Training, delivered by DFES. Upon registering with the Shire and completing this training you will be provided with free PPE*. Your safety and wellbeing is our highest priority and by completing this training we hope you can continue to assist in the management of fire in the Shire, in the safest way possible.

On Monday, 2nd September 2024, CEO Gavin Robins and Manager of Financial Services Geize Teixeira (pictured below), conducted the draw for the early payment of Shire rates. The $600 prize winner was A. L. McKinnon & L. Wise, who were pleasantly surprised to discover they were randomly drawn from the rates database. The chance to win was open to ratepayers who paid their rates in full within 21 days of the notice.

The State Government has announced that the VacSwim summer swimming program will be free to all WA kids these summer school holidays. Lessons, which range from five to 10 days in length, and pool entry will be free for all students who enrol. Enrolments are open now and will close 16 October. In early September we were thrilled to welcome to Moora the Hon Kristy McBain MP, Minister for Regional Development, Local Government and Territories. Hon McBain visited key projects in Moora with Shire CEO Gavin Robins and Shire President Tracy Lefroy, including: ** The Early Childhood Learning Centre & Wheatbelt Kids Institute ** The Swimming Pool Refurbishment ** Koojan West Road upgrade ** Moora Aerodrome Emergency Services and Safety Upgrade

With the imminent arrival of renewable energy in the Shire of Moora, we have taken the opportunity to conduct a “Renewable Energy 101” for community members. It will be held on Tuesday 10th September, at the Moora Recreation Centre, between 6-8pm. The programme will discuss the current nature of renewable energy in Western Australia, policy settings, the structure of the WA electricity grid and the part played by renewable energy in supporting the transition of the grid to an increasing reliance of renewable technologies.

Amendment of Shire of Moora Local Planning Scheme No 4 (LPS 4): The Shire of Moora has undertaken consultation with developers planning the construction of renewable energy projects in the Shire. At this time, these projects only relate to wind farms although the emergence of new technologies is expected to introduce more renewable technology as the expansion of the renewable energy sector continues to gain momentum across Australia. In preparation for this, the Shire of Moora is preparing to embrace renewable energy technologies, including wind turbines, new transmission and storage infrastructure and emerging technologies which are intended to help achieve the state’s net-zero emissions targets.

The Kerkhoff Carnaby Group is delighted to confirm it will build the Carnaby cockatoo sculpture between the Youth Centre and netball courts. In confirming this news, Topsy De Vries and Tracy Lefroy said they were excited about the decision as it enables the Kerkhoff Carnaby Group to proceed with arrangements to build the statue. The Youth Centre and Skate Park will remain where they are and will eventually be refurbished as part of the sport and recreation precinct renewal.
